Coffee is one of those topics where those who are passionate about it can’t live without it and assume that every yawn is a scream for coffee. On the other hand, those who are not coffee drinkers can’t really care either way. However, besides just being a drink that wakes you up or something to drink with a friend, coffee is actually rich in nutrients and healthy food with lots of benefits. Coffee: Is it Good for My Health?

* Nutrients?

Very often, people assume that too much coffee makes you gain weight and cause sleep disorders. This is not true. It’s the sugar/cream in coffee which causes weight gain.  Generally, caffeine has a half-life of about 5 to 6 hours. Since coffee contains caffeine, if you drink it late in the day, your sleep will be affected because there is still too much caffeine in your system. Caffeine is not the only reason to drink coffee. Coffee contains several micronutrients such as niacin, magnesium, riboflavin, manganese, etc. It’s also rich in antioxidants. All these benefit your health.

* Making your coffee

Generally, it’s best to drink your coffee black. This will ensure that you don’t get much sugar in your system.

How you brew your coffee is up to you. You could use freshly-roasted coffee and grind it just before brewing, or you could use the coffee powder that is sold commercially. Some people prefer to use coffee capsules with a coffee making machine, which is relatively hassle-free. Coffee connoisseurs will even go to the extent of preferring a particular degree of roast for their coffee beans. Some prefer a light roast, while others prefer medium or darker roasts. Very often, this is just a taste preference. They may like their coffee more flavorful and bitter.
At the end of the day, taste aside, you should be aware that there are health benefits that can be accrued if you drink a cup or two of coffee daily.

* Health benefits

There are tons of benefits to the listing, which are too many to cover in one article, but we’ll look at a few that are especially beneficial for most of us. Coffee helps to lower the risk of cancer because of its antioxidant properties. Since cancer affects millions, this is one way to help keep the disease at bay.

Glucose metabolism in the body is regulated by the chlorogenic acid in coffee. Diabetics will be able to stabilize their blood sugar levels by consuming coffee daily. Of course, black coffee is best here. You do not want sugar in your coffee.

The most common benefit of coffee is that it wakes you up in the morning. Studies have shown that it helps to boost your memory too. So, if you have deadlines to meet, coffee can help. Just ensure that you do not become overly reliant on caffeine.

Besides these benefits, coffee also helps to:

* Increase weight loss
* Lowers depression
* Prevents gout
* Promotes heart and liver health
* Prevents dementia
* Provides pain relief for headaches
* Prevents cavities and tooth decay

These benefits alone will make you realize that coffee is a health-boosting drink that you should consume daily. Generally, try not to use too much sugar in your coffee… and don’t exceed two cups a day or you may risk getting dependent on it.

Make a piping hot cup of coffee a part of your daily diet.
